Please complete a background check by clicking here.
All volunteers who work in our children's program or host a Family Gathering at their home must complete a background check prior to serving for the safety of our children.
More information about our Family Gatherings below:
During our Family Gatherings, as we wait for families to arrive, we want to make everyone feel very welcome. We will make some announcements and pray about 5-7 minutes after our scheduled start time. After the prayer, volunteers eat first! Parents will be responsible for getting their children fed. They should be instructed to introduce themselves and their children to you, but please take initiative to introduce yourself and follow the instructions below.
There will be about a 2-hour period where you will be responsible for the children. We will provide some activities. Please do the activities with the children & encourage them to participate, however, don't force them. These activities will help reinforce what the parents are learning upstairs. Then, let the children play!

- Be on time.
- We ask our families to arrive on time so we can begin & end on time.
- We ask our volunteers to arrive 15 minutes early so we are ready to go!
- Dinner is provided!
- Part of showing our gratitude to you for serving is providing dinner!
- You'll be first in line because you are serving. This also helps with being done before everyone else so you're ready to serve.
- You're a partner in ministry.
- You make this ministry happen. You ARE Love Moves Us to these families.
- Treat parents & children the way you would want to be treated if you were going somewhere new for the first time.
- Welcome families & children.
- Introduce yourself to children & parents. Be welcoming!
- Ask parents if you can be in charge of their children for the next 2 hours. Tell them you can get them food, water, take them to the bathroom, and give hugs if necessary. (This helps children feel safe & passes the authority on to you.)
- Come prepared!
- You will be provided some activities to do with the children.
- Some light structure helps to keep order and make the time go by easier.
- Your main goal is to connect with the children & let them connect with each other through play.
- Keep 3 Main Rules.
- Stick Together.
- No Hurts.
- Have Fun.
- Be compassionate & help meet their needs.
- Many of the children have experienced trauma in one form or another. Sometimes their behavior may seem odd or out of place.
- Most of the typical approaches to getting kids to "behave" do not work with these children.
- Always attempt to find out their needs. Help them use their words to tell you what they need.
- Use these phrases:
- Show Respect.
- Ask permission.
- Listen & obey.
- Be gentle & kind.
- No hurts.
- Try again.
