This panel discussion will include Roger Simmons and Shanel Poole. Both have a wealth of knowledge and education to share, in addition to their own experience with racism.

Roger Simmons is the President/COO of Crossinculture, a consulting firm with extensive experience in providing Cultural Competency training for organizations desiring to enhance their Cultural Awareness levels. He is also an Adjunct Professor for Judson University, Elgin, IL providing instruction to students in the area of Cultural Diversity. Roger has worked directly with public schools in the area of managing cultural diversity and has provided training in cultural awareness in several non-profit organizations in the Elgin, IL area.
He is valued as a connector for racial and social justice community conversations across many entities. In this capacity, Roger has organized round table discussions in local institutions for higher learning, including Judson University and Wheaton College. |
Shanel Poole is the Doctoral Graduate Assistant of Inclusion and Diversity and the liaison to the Black Student Union for Judson University. Shanel overcame many obstacles growing up. She was expelled from Indianapolis Public Schools at the age of 12 and by the age of 18 she was homeless. It was only by her hard work and determination that she received her G.E.D. She graduated from Indiana State University and was selected to be the 2010 commencement speaker.
Poole has developed and implemented a trauma-informed curriculum which has helped many young women. She also founded Guidance Life-Skills and Mentoring (GLAM) in March of 2008 and is also the executive director. GLAM has changed and improved the lives of over 350 girls for over ten years. |
