Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us. How often can that be said of you??
I love Dan Siegel’s hand model of the brain & the image of “flipping our lid.” When our “lid is flipped” we can’t problem solve or think rationally. Being mindful of our triggers and what’s going on inside of US first is the best way to serve our children.

During our monthly Family Gatherings, our Children’s Programming Team creates engine plates with our children. This is a great activity to do at home for EVERYONE. Put the plates on the fridge and check in throughout the day with your family - "How's your engine running?"
It’s not an instant fix but as you model how to use it - they will follow!
