Being working parents with Kim working overnights is already a challenge. Add in 3 kids – ages 3, 2 and 1 (1 in foster care), no family in the area to help, and parenting becomes even more challenging. They have looked to their church to help with finding trustworthy, reliable people to help care for their children; but as is often the case, most people pat them on the |  |
back and tell them they are “heroes” or “so amazing” without offering practical support.

Kim & Dirk aren’t the only family who travel a great distance to attend Family Gatherings. There are multiple families who do this. That’s because they desperately need to be around other people who understand the challenges they face.

Your giving provides a place for kids to build a healthy identity as they wrestle through their story during adolescence. You give parents a place to get to know other parents who are fostering or have adopted to learn what their children need and how to navigate difficult conversations.

Having a brother and husband who were adopted, she knows the importance of support for adoptees and their families. Unfortunately, she is now separated from her husband, in part, due to unprocessed thoughts and feelings about his adoption.
A BRAND-NEW THERAPY PROGRAM
Thanks to a generous donor, LoveMoves.Us is piloting a new program with a licensed, adoption competent, complex-developmental trauma-informed therapist who will be travelling to a family’s home to provide in-home therapy once per week!
This meets one of the biggest needs of all the families we serve! The mother in the family who will be receiving these services said, “This is an answer to prayer! I’m going to cry!”

With families willing to travel more than an hour to attend Family Gatherings, they are needed far and wide!
We’re exploring opportunities to serve and support families through some new paradigms:
● Anchor Sites all over Chicagoland
● Piloting a Community Center to go deep in serving regional needs
● Providing a simple, customizable blueprint to starting more Family Gatherings
● Partnering with therapists to serve children at Family Gatherings
